Welcome! We at the Gray Matter Museum of Art are glad you are here. The first chapter of our journey—after many years of searching to find the perfect home for our nouvelle boutique museum has come to a close. We are now open, live and on the map in heart of coastal Orange County.
Our choice of being here is to contribute to you, our local schools and the community at large by being a source of where art can be cultivated & displayed in our own backyard. The Gray Matter Museum of Art is dedicated to educating and opening the imagination of children of all ages about California’s coastal region through art.
Who we are? Or who are we? An open space with wide amounts of parking for museum goers, handicap accessibility, great neighbors on either side, and ideally walking distance to local neighborhoods and Newport Mesa schools.
The Gray Matter Museum of Art is not only a museum. Our design has been thought out to promote live artist workshops, outreach programs and to host to special engagements.
We are driven to display a great deal of local artists, galleries and collectors who would like to share their collections for art lovers of all ages. Wanting to have a warm sense of welcome, we strive to be edgy and seek to set and take our own path. Not a space too busy to notice our little ones, we are a place that strives to embrace the young artist, the dreamer and the less fortunate.
As small as GMMA is, our goal is to bloom here where we are planted. Many questions were asked…“Where can one locally go to see rotating local art for free without driving to Laguna Beach or Santa Ana?” Or, “Where can one walk your dog after you pick up your morning coffee and be inspired by art in an ever-changing environment?” Or, “Where can one take the kids for a fun afternoon of arts and crafts where hands on is a must?”
The Gray Matter Museum of Art seeks to fill that void and make a difference in our community by opening the imagination in all of us by being active in bringing artisans at work & play to Newport-Mesa.
Joining us in the next chapter are local welders, general contractors, carpenters, architects and designers who are assisting us with GMMA’s environment and functional aesthetics. Added to this is having local school heads, teachers, counselors and community leaders welcoming & supporting GMMA’s efforts to enrich lives.
Our Board of Directors, to ensure positivity and imagination-minded inclusion of artisans who are inspirational and significant in their own way, actively supports the Gray Matter Museum of Art.
